Media Release - Welland Safe Community Partnership needs your help

Posted on: 23-August-2007

(June 22, 2004 – Welland, ON) – The Welland Safe Community Partnership (WSCP) announced today that they will be holding two community information sessions at the Rose City Senior’s Centre, 145 Lincoln Street, to educate Welland’s residents, businesses and community organizations about this new initiative.

“To date, there have been nearly 30 representatives from organizations across Welland involved in getting this initiative underway,” said Rick Demers, Vice Chair. “Now, we’re hoping to get the community at large involved in tackling the safety concerns of our seniors, neighbourhoods and workplaces.”

The sessions will be held on Tuesday, June 29 and Thursday, July 8. Both will begin at 4:30 p.m. The steering committee will be providing the same information at both sessions, so interested community members only need to attend one.

“The Welland Safe Community Partnership vision is ‘we work together to make Welland the safest place…because we live, learn, work and play here,’” said Pat Chiocchio, Chair. “The purpose of these information sessions and of the Partnership is to get everyone in the community working together toward this common goal…to promote safety as an attitude, not an action.”

The WSCP is currently working on a business plan, with a goal of submitting it to the Safe Communities Foundation in August 2004. All of the sub-committees are still looking for volunteers to assist with determining and implementing their goals and objectives.
