Posted on: 23-August-2007
(November 15, 2005 – Welland, ON) – Today, in partnership with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, the Welland Safe Community Partnership (WSCP) began workplace safety training for more than 20 Welland businesses.
“We have been working with WSIB to offer their SCIP Training (Safe Community Incentive Program) to our businesses. This training has great benefits not only for the employees of each workplace, but also for each organization and, of course, the community at large,” said Pat Chiocchio, WSCP Chair.
In the WSCP’s business plan, that was submitted to achieve Safe Community designation, the Workplace Safety sub-committee committed to recruit and train 10 – 15 of the 156 eligible Welland workplaces. With this first training series, there are more than 20 businesses participating.
SCIP Training sessions will take place on four Tuesdays: November 15, November 22, December 6 and December 13. By participating in all of the sessions, workplaces in Welland benefit from a 5% reduction in their WSIB premiums. For businesses that missed out on this first set of training sessions, there will be opportunities to participate in the future.
Bill Auchterlonie, Chair of the Workplace Safety sub-committee, is proud of the accomplishments of his team, and explains, “This is the first step toward getting all of the businesses in Welland to be better and safer workplaces. John Deere and GDX are world leaders in safety. We’d like all of Welland’s workplaces to have a reputation for superior safety.”
