Fall Prevention

Safe Communities Welland offers various programs for seniors and also partners with several agencies to help ensure that relevant safety information gets out to everyone in the community. Seniors' Safety Days are held at the Niagara Safety Village, inviting seniors from across the community.

The prevention of falls is a serious issue for many seniors who have either taken a previous fall or who are afraid of falling.

One third of Canadian seniors experience a fall each year, and half of those more than once. Forty percent of those falls result in hip fractures, often causing disability, loss of independence or death.

There are several resources available to help you determine the risk factors in your home and to provide you with information about what to do if you fall.

Fall Prevention Network Niagara is the link to support and services in Niagara. It is more than information – it provides access to an action kit to manage risk for fall injuries, reduce hazards and promote independence www.fallpreventionniagara.ca/index.php
